Look Out! It's Raining Acorns!

We have a huge Red Oak tree in our backyard.   It provides great shade in the summer and a place to hang out for neighborhood wildlife all year long.

A few weeks ago, before all of the leaves dropped ...

The tree shed its acorns.

No, shed is not the right word ... Let's see ... it  threw them, poured them,  tossed them by the boatloads onto our house, back porch, garden and yard ...

It was ...

...   It was raining acorns!

What do they say ... the more acorns ... the worse the winter!

Honey ... We're gonna need one heck of a snow shovel!

I thought my parents had a lot of acorns on the ground this year....

If that saying is true you might want to purchase a snow blower!

Love the pictures!

Cool! I've been praying we'd get snow this year. We get it every few years and it's time. I LOVE snow. I miss it. Used to live in MO and enjoy it every winter. Not so here in AR or when I lived in LA. Snow, snow, snow, snow, snow!

My daughter has FOUR huge oak trees in her yard and you can barely walk without rolling on the acorns! The squirrels should be very happy! Can you imagine if you had a tin roof on your house?!!

I never heard of the connection between acorns and a hard winter. As for what Susie said, we have oaks all around our family cottage, and the roof IS tin. I've heard the occasional pitter patter, but not an acorn storm.

Dear Momma's S.,
I don't know about you, but the weather around here has been crazy for the last 3 years or so ...
We already have a snow blower ... maybe we'd better have it tuned up or look at a bigger one!

Thanks!

Dear LBDD,
I also love the snow! Right after a snow fall ... there is something reverent, isn't there? A holy solitude to the landscape ... a peacefulness.
I hope that you get a nice snowfall this winter!

Dearest Susan,
OMG! 4 oaks? Last night I almost broke my neck walking through the yard with our one oak tree! Can't imagine 4! But I bet they look lovely and provide a lot of shade in the winter! Be careful When you walk through her yard!

I can't imagine a tin roof! I constant thumping, especially when I'm up in my room can drive me crazy!

You all have a tin roof at the family cottage? How rustic! What a great place that is! You are so lucky to have it!
Honestly when I closed my eyes, it actually sounded like big balls of hail raining from the sky ... With no let up!
Lucky squirrels!!

What a pretty tree! I would have been scared to go near it--those acorns could hurt!
:o)

You hit it on the mark, so to speak, Elle. We took our lives in our hands being under that tree!

Our dog avoided doing her "business" under that tree while the acorns rained ... which is her regular spot. She found herself going to the other side of the house!

That tree is a beauty and even though there were a ton of acorns this year, I still love her!

Had to tell you I thought of you. As I was doing laundry I pulled out clothes to put them from the washer to the dryer and what did I pull out but an acorn!

Were my rugrats over playing at your house and didn't tell me.

I laughed out loud and thought of you.

Very cool having a snow blower! You go girl!

Ha! I forgot to tell you, Momma's S.... your darling rugrats were over helping with the leaves!!!

Actually I laughed out loud when I read your comment ... Those darned acorns are EVERYWHERE!!!! If acorns were money, we'd all be rich!

I'm glad you brought up the snow blower! I had forgotten to tell my DH that we might need to have it tuned!!!
