I was playing some old music today and came across one of my utmost favorite artists, Eva Cassidy. Eva had such a way with music ... It never ever fails to move me.
Our son, Jeff and his future wife, Ashley, introduced us to Eva about ten or eleven years ago. I remember playing the CD nonstop for about a month and crying almost every time I heard it! Every song was so sweet and yet so powerful.
Two short months after this performance in 1996, Eva Cassidy passed away of cancer ... just as her career was beginning to take off. I think, for me, that makes her music all the more special.
The wonderful thing, and there is a wonderful thing, is that her voice lives on ...
and I still love it all these year later.

Wow!!great to see her perform this.Oh with so much soul and feelings. I would only hope each one who stops by will like her as we do.
I don't think we've seen this video of her, have we?
Amazing talent!
I only have two words: Danny Boy
Someday when we get together I'll bring all my Eva CDs.
Hey Susan!
Knew we had a lot in common!
Oh my goodness, thank you for introducing me to this amazing artist. Her voice is hauntingly beautiful. I will have to check out what itunes has of her music. Good stuff.

Glad you liked her, Linda ... I love the way she did her own take on well known songs.
Talented girl.
I had heard her name but had never heard her voice, which is just gorgeous.
I imagine she must have already been ill when this was taped? The mournfulness is heartbreaking, and when she ends with "if happy little bluebirds sing then why oh why can't I?" the tears started to fall. I've never heard this sung more beautifully, or sadly.
Thank you for the introduction.
And along the same melancholy lines, my son's musical duo partner spontaneously sang "Danny Boy" at his father's wake a year ago. We weren't there, but we heard about it. It was his dad's favorite song.
Thanks to you, I just found Eva on my inherited iPod and listened to her live blues performance while I treadmilled. Her voice is well suited for the blues! But even bluesy, she was more upbeat than this melancholy song you posted. It just breaks my heart that she is gone.
I'm so glad that you like her, Ruth!
I believe the story is is that she had had cancer a few years before. During this recording session for the BBC (?), she was feeling a pain in her hip and went to the Dr.
I love her album "Songbird". her rendition of "Fields of Gold" is lovely.
What a special tribute to sing "Danny Boy" at a funeral. Makes such a heart-warming remembrance for family and friends.
Hope things are getting back to normal at the farm!
I LOVE Eva Cassidy and can you believe I only found her last year?
I only have one of her CDs as I found her when I heard her version of Fields of Gold.
I can't wait to collect more of her music!
Oh why, oh why can't I? just got me. So beautiful, so soulful. I can only imagine what that song meant to her at that time in her life.
Oh Dawn!
I thought of you as I was writing about her. I'm so glad you like her, too!
See -- yet another thing to be grateful for --- Eva and her beautiful voice!
Debbie, All I can say is WOW.... so beautiful!

Frannie!
So glad you liked her.!!!!
I read more about her. She had a melanoma removed, and five years later it had spread to her hip. I was touched, because I had a melanoma removed. That was 18 years ago. I hope I'm safe. :|
How scary for you, Ruth. That must have been so hard to go through, especially with your children being younger.
I'm sure that after 18 years, you have dodged that one.
Eva's story is very touching.
